Belvedere College

Belvedere College is a Jesuit-run secondary school located in Dublin City, Ireland. It was founded in 1841. Facilities at the school include a 25 metre swimming pool, a gymnasium and a theatre. As opposed to many of the schools in Dublin, Belvedere is a private school; that is fees must be paid in order to attend, although a scholarship scheme is available. Belvedere is an all-boys school and all the current teaching staff are lay-persons. The school has a strong rugby tradition which remains to this day. Belvedere College is the backdrop for much of James Joyce's novel Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man.
