Bedford, Nova Scotia

Bedford is a town in Nova Scotia, Canada. It lies on the Bedford Basin, which is part of the Halifax Harbour. With a population of 16,102 (2001 census figure) Bedford is for all intents and purposes a commuter suburb of Halifax

History

Bedford was incorporated in 1980, and in 1996 was amalgamated with Halifax, Dartmouth, Sackville and Halifax County into the Halifax Regional Municipality (HRM). The current mayor of the HRM is Peter J. Kelly, who was mayor of Bedford at the time of amalgamation.
