Beaver Falls is a city located in Beaver County, Pennsylvania. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 9,920.

Geography

Beaver Falls is located at 40°45'32" North, 80°19'11" West (40.758865, -80.319737). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 5.9 km² (2.3 mi²). 5.5 km² (2.1 mi²) of it is land and 0.4 km² (0.2 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 7.02% water.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there are 9,920 people, 3,798 households, and 2,259 families residing in the city. The population density is 1,806.7/km² (4,681.6/mi²). There are 4,380 housing units at an average density of 797.7/km² (2,067.1/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 78.82% White, 17.53% African American, 0.13% Native American, 0.62% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 0.50% from other races, and 2.37% from two or more races. 1.06% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 3,798 households out of which 26.9% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 36.6% are married couples living together, 19.1% have a female householder with no husband present, and 40.5% are non-families. 35.3% of all households are made up of individuals and 16.7% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.31 and the average family size is 3.00. In the city the population is spread out with 21.9% under the age of 18, 16.7% from 18 to 24, 25.1% from 25 to 44, 18.8% from 45 to 64, and 17.5% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 35 years. For every 100 females there are 84.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 79.1 males. The median income for a household in the city is $26,344, and the median income for a family is $30,405. Males have a median income of $31,151 versus $22,243 for females. The per capita income for the city is $13,808. 22.5% of the population and 19.8% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 29.8% of those under the age of 18 and 12.4% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
