Ballinhassig

Ballinhassig (Bal tha an Cheasaigh in Irish) is a village in County Cork, Ireland, situated 11 km south of Cork City just off the N71 Bandon road and not far from the source of the River Owenabue (Abhainn Bui, meaning "Yellow River"). Mountjoy, the Lord Deputy of Ireland, camped there together with his army of 4,000 troops on the night before the Battle of Kinsale in 1601. The Kilpatrick railway tunnel at Ballinhassig, opened in 1847, was the first such tunnel to be completed in Ireland.
