Bairnsdale, Victoria

Bairnsdale is a city in eastern Victoria, Australia, population 11000 (2001). It is situated 285km east of Melbourne, near where the Mitchell River empties into Lake King, and is close to the beautiful Gippsland Lakes and the ocean. Bairnsdale is the commercial centre for the east Gippsland region and the seat of local government for East Gippsland Shire. It has two high schools, Nagal College (Catholic Private) and Bairnsdale High School (Government). Nearby towns include Paynesville, Lakes Entrance, Sale, Stratford and Orbost.
