Axel Munthe

Axel Martin Fredrik Munthe (October 31, 1857 - February 11, 1949) was a Swedish doctor, better known as the author of The Story of San Michele (1929), an autobiographical account of his work and later life. He had been born in Oskarshamn, Sweden, had been physician to the Swedish royal family, and had profitable medical practices in Rome and Paris. Retiring from public life, he set up home at the Villa San Michele on the island of Capri. Munthe, Axel Munthe, Axel
