Aviz

The House of Aviz is a dynasty of kings of Portugal. In 1385, the Interregnum ended with the acclamation of the Master of the Order of Aviz, John, natural son of king Pedro I and Dona Teresa Loureno as king. The descendants of king John I were still nominal masters of Aviz, though they were often replaced by other priests. The house of Aviz fell to the huge Spanish Empire, which transformed Portugal into a province, with the death of old king Henry I.

Kings of the House of Aviz

Cardinal Henry was succeeded by king Philip II of Spain. His domain would last until 1640, with the acclamation of the duke of Bragana as John IV of Portugal.
