Aspropyrgos (Greek: Ασπρόπυργος for white tower). is a suburban community located 20 NW of Athens in the heart of the Thriasian plain, and Thria was known in ancient times. Its location is around 38.1 or 38'06 N and 23.5 or 23'42 E. The population is around 12,000. Its dialing code is 210. Its main street is Dimokratias Avenue. Aspropyrgos used to be an oil producing community and was its main industry along with agriculturalism. Though agriculturalism is very rare today. Eleusis military airport forms its communal and municipal boundary in its west. Mount Parnitha is in the northeast. A small port is founded in the south and the shores are aligned with trees. Willow and other types of pineless trees dominate the city's coastline. Aegaleo mountain is in the southwest and its landscape is rocky. Its nearest highway is GR-8A/E94 with its interchange at 2 km south of the centre. The interchange was a junction until 1994. It was closed off from 1996 until 1997 to extend the number of lanes to four. The main street also serves a road that linked the Peloponnese and the northern and eastern suburbs of Athens. The industrial area is in the southeastern part of the Aspropyrgos and the entire south is also industrialized. Attiki Odos is now accessible to its north with an interchange. The high-speed rail will be founded to the north but will have no nearby station. The refinery south of the city is producing oil since its opening. The size and production is smaller than Corinth's refinery. Pollution has been a problem for years. The refinery includes depots in the southern and the eastern part and some in the western part and a dock to the southwest. The Skaramangas Bay is to the south. A lagoon where the area is less than 1 km². and the highway is in the west and the boundary with Chaidari is in the south. The Aegaleo Ring is situated in the east but not fullt accessible. Aspropyrgos has schools, lyceums, gymnasia, banks, a post office, a train station, a port, and squares (plateia). Crime had been a problem in the mid-2000s and it was like Chicago Not far from the centre in the northeast is where the Roma population lived.
