The portion of the sky in Carina is filled with several bright stars, and Aspidiske is also counted as one of the brighter stars in the night sky. Aspidiske is of spectral type A8 or F0, making it likely a large and powerful white to yellow-white star. It has an apparent magnitude of 2.21 and an absolute magnitude of -4.46. It is approximately 700 light years from Earth. The star is located at a declination of -59 16' 31.04' and right ascension of 09:17:05.40 (2000).
