Ashoro, Hokkaido

Ashoro (足寄町; -chou) is a town located in Ashoro District, Tokachi, Hokkaido, Japan. As of 2004, the town has an estimated population of 8,356 and a density of 5.93 persons per km². The total area is 1,408.09 km². It was the local government with the largest territory in Japan until the merger of Takayama city, Gifu prefecture in January 2005. Main industries of the town include dairying and farming of sugar beet and wheat. Lake Onnetō is a major attraction of the town and is a part of Akan National Park.
