Geography Asharoken is located at 40°56'15" North, 73°23'0" West (40.937597, -73.383471). According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 16.8 km² (6.5 mi²). 3.5 km² (1.4 mi²) of it is land and 13.3 km² (5.1 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 78.92% water. Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 625 people, 254 households, and 184 families residing in the village. The population density is 176.1/km² (457.4/mi²). There are 307 housing units at an average density of 86.5/km² (224.7/mi²). The racial makeup of the village is 96.64% White, 0.16% African American, 0.00% Native American, 2.72% Asian, 0.16% Pacific Islander, 0.32% from other races, and 0.00% from two or more races. 1.92% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 254 households out of which 22.8% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 66.5% are married couples living together, 4.7% have a female householder with no husband present, and 27.2% are non-families. 22.8% of all households are made up of individuals and 9.1% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older.
