Armstrong County is a county located in the state of Texas. As of 2000, the population is 2,148. Its county seat is Claude6. Armstrong is named for one of several Texas pioneer families, although it is not certain which one. (See List of Texas county name etymologies.)

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 2,367 km² (914 mi²). 2,366 km² (914 mi²) of it is land and 0 km² (0 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.02% water.

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 2,148 people, 802 households, and 612 families residing in the county. The population density is 1/km² (2/mi²). There are 920 housing units at an average density of 0/km² (1/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 95.44% White, 0.28% Black or African American, 0.65% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 2.79% from other races, and 0.84% from two or more races. 5.40% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 802 households out of which 33.90% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 67.20% are married couples living together, 6.10% have a female householder with no husband present, and 23.60% are non-families. 21.40% of all households are made up of individuals and 12.00% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.58 and the average family size is 2.99. In the county, the population is spread out with 26.00% under the age of 18, 6.10% from 18 to 24, 24.80% from 25 to 44, 23.80% from 45 to 64, and 19.20% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 41 years. For every 100 females there are 93.20 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 90.30 males. The median income for a household in the county is $38,194, and the median income for a family is $43,894. Males have a median income of $30,114 versus $21,786 for females. The per capita income for the county is $17,151. 10.60% of the population and 7.90% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 15.80% of those under the age of 18 and 11.60% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
