Antlers, Oklahoma

Antlers is a city located in Pushmataha County, Oklahoma. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 2,552. It is the county seat of Pushmataha County.

Geography

Antlers is located at 34°13'52" North, 95°37'15" West (34.230986, -95.620911). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 7.1 km² (2.7 mi²). 7.1 km² (2.7 mi²) of it is land and none of the area is covered with water.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there are 2,552 people, 1,068 households, and 652 families residing in the city. The population density is 359.6/km² (931.1/mi²). There are 1,260 housing units at an average density of 177.6/km² (459.7/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 78.13% White, 1.84% African American, 14.93% Native American, 0.08% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.31% from other races, and 4.70% from two or more races. 1.76% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 1,068 households out of which 30.5% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 41.5% are married couples living together, 17.4% have a female householder with no husband present, and 38.9% are non-families. 35.5% of all households are made up of individuals and 20.5% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.28 and the average family size is 2.96. In the city the population is spread out with 26.7% under the age of 18, 7.5% from 18 to 24, 23.7% from 25 to 44, 19.9% from 45 to 64, and 22.3% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 38 years. For every 100 females there are 78.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 72.4 males. The median income for a household in the city is $17,594, and the median income for a family is $22,684. Males have a median income of $23,958 versus $16,688 for females. The per capita income for the city is $11,285. 31.6% of the population and 28.9% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 42.7% of those under the age of 18 and 23.2% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
