Anti-fascist Action

Anti-Fascist Action (or AFA) is a British far-left organisation founded in 1986. It was active in fighting organisations it claims are or were "fascist" or racist in Britain such as the National Front and British National Party amongst others. Its tactics have often been criticised for their excessive use of violence, and much like that of their opponents, they have many Skinheads amongst their number. Still nominally in existence it has officially retired from fighting on the streets for political reasons best expounded by the anti-fascist and far-left political organisation Red Action. Other anti-fascists including elements from the Militant Tendency stewards group and "renegade" AFA groups not ready to abandon the physical confrontation of their opponents on the streets, continue a militant anti-fascist tradition under the banner of "No Platform". In Sweden there is also a group called "Anti Fascistisk Aktion" which means the same thing and has the same acronym AFA. They are also involved in hooliganism, seeking out and engaging in street fights with those they claim to be nationalists, racist and "fascists".
