Annandale, Virginia

Annandale is an unincorporated place located in Fairfax County, Virginia. Recognized by the U.S. Census Bureau as a census-designated place (CDP), the community had a total population of 54,994 as of the 2000 census.

Geography

Annandale is located at 38°50'3" North, 77°12'41" West (38.834134, -77.211277). According to the United States Census Bureau, the community has a total area of 35.8 km² (13.8 mi²). 35.7 km² (13.8 mi²) of it is land and 0.07% is water.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there are 54,994 people, 19,927 households, and 14,088 families residing in the community. The population density is 1,538.6/km² (3,984.5/mi²). There are 20,243 housing units at an average density of 566.4/km² (1,466.7/mi²). The racial makeup of the community is 64.50% White, 5.86% African American, 0.30% Native American, 19.36% Asian, 0.07% Pacific Islander, 5.94% from other races, and 3.96% from two or more races. 14.49% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 19,927 households out of which 32.1% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 57.8% are married couples living together, 9.2% have a female householder with no husband present, and 29.3% are non-families. 21.8% of all households are made up of individuals and 6.8% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.73 and the average family size is 3.18. In the community the population is spread out with 22.6% under the age of 18, 7.4% from 18 to 24, 32.4% from 25 to 44, 25.9% from 45 to 64, and 11.8% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 38 years. For every 100 females there are 95.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 93.3 males. The median income for a household in the community is $72,561, and the median income for a family is $80,459. Males have a median income of $50,628 versus $39,360 for females. The per capita income for the community is $31,623. 7.0% of the population and 4.5% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 8.9% of those under the age of 18 and 6.3% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
