Andover, Ohio

Andover is a village located in the south-east of Ashtabula County, Ohio. As of the 2000 census, the village had a total population of 1,269. The closest village to the Ohio side of Pymatuming State Park, the settlement supports a regional tourism industry.

Geography

Andover is located at 41°36'28" North, 80°34'15" West (41.607744, -80.570729). According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 3.5 km² (1.4 mi²). 3.5 km² (1.4 mi²) of it is land and none of the area is covered with water.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there are 1,269 people, 427 households, and 271 families residing in the village. The population density is 357.6/km² (929.2/mi²). There are 463 housing units at an average density of 130.5/km² (339.0/mi²). The racial makeup of the village is 95.82% White, 3.07% African American, 0.00% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.32% from other races, and 0.79% from two or more races. 1.18% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 427 households out of which 34.4% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 51.1% are married couples living together, 9.4% have a female householder with no husband present, and 36.3% are non-families. 33.5% of all households are made up of individuals and 21.1% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.53 and the average family size is 3.27. In the village the population is spread out with 25.0% under the age of 18, 5.6% from 18 to 24, 25.2% from 25 to 44, 22.5% from 45 to 64, and 21.7% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 40 years. For every 100 females there are 88.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 82.0 males. The median income for a household in the village is $31,250, and the median income for a family is $45,526. Males have a median income of $31,845 versus $22,679 for females. The per capita income for the village is $14,702. 10.7% of the population and 8.2% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 11.3% of those under the age of 18 and 20.7% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
