American Psychiatric Association

The American Psychiatric Association is a professional organization of psychiatrists whose members are American and international physicians who are trained in psychiatry. The association is responsible for various journals and pamphlets, as well as the book Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, or DSM. The DSM codifies the generally-accepted psychiatric conditions and the guidelines for diagnosing those conditions. The American Psychiatric Association is an organizational member of the Coalition to Stop Gun Violence, which advocates gun control.
