American Legislative Exchange Council

American Legislative Exchange Council or ALEC is a conservative advocacy group funded primarily by major corporations. It develops legislation which promotes the interests of industry, developing model laws and lobbying state legislatures for enactment of favorable legislation. About 1/3 of the state legislators in the United States are members of ALEC. ALEC has been very successful in its efforts during the 1990s.
