Amazonas Region

Amazonas is a region in northern Peru. It is bordered on the north by Ecuador; on the west by the Cajamarca Region and Ecuador; on the south by the La Libertad Region; and on the east by the Loreto and San Martn regions. Its capital is the city of Chachapoyas.

Political division

The region is divided into seven provinces (provincias, singular: provincia), which are composed of 83 districts (distritos, singular: distrito). The provinces, with their capitals in parenthesis, are:
  1. Bagua (Bagua)
  2. Bongar (Villa de Jumbilla)
  3. Chachapoyas (Chachapoyas)
  4. Condorcanqui (Santa Mara de Nieva)
  5. Luya (Lamud)
  6. Rodrguez de Mendoza (Mendoza)
  7. Utcubamba (Bagua Grande)
