Altona is the westernmost district of the city of Hamburg in Germany. It was founded in 1535 as a village of fishermen. In 1664 it received the city right from the Danish king Frederick III. In 1867 it became part of Prussia. In 1938 the Greater Hamburg Act merged it and several surrounding cities with Hamburg.
