AlphamanAlphaMan is a roguelike computer game, originally written by Jeffrey Olson in 1995. Game AlphaMan is an exceptionally silly ANSI-based color game. It takes place in post-nuclear Earth. As such, it is the only roguelike game to be set in the future. It is loosely based on the game Gamma World, published by TSR. Your character is a mutated agent. You start out with one physical and mental mutation, and the standard assortment of starting equipment - a weapon, some armor, and a bit of food. Your goal is to save Earth from the hands of a "crazed psychotic", who intends to release a toxin into the air and destroy all life. Items and Monsters The main categories of items are weapons (contact and range), armor, food (spam and beef-a-roni), berries, and small and large tech devices. Berries have a variety of effects, and can usually be determined by eating or throwing them. There are over 100 different kinds of tech devices, which can be figured out by either figuring them out or by using them. Not all tech devices are useful. Some tech devices include Mr. Clean (effective against molds), a Home Movie Projector (which puts creatures to sleep), and a Leafblower (useless). The dungeons are populated with the usual variety of creatures (fire ants, ghouls, gazelles), as well as a few strange monsters (Venetians (blinding attack), Crunchberry Beast (eats your berries), Mr. Potato Head ("You lopped off an arm!")).
