Alka Yagnik

Alka Yagnik (the last name is pronounced Yaaj-nik) is a playback singer in Bollywood, the Hindi language Indian movie industry. She is known for her romantic voice. The first movie that she sang in was Payal ki Jhankar (1979 - The Sound of the Anklet). Her first full fledged song was Hum Tum Rahenge (We two will be here) in the movie Hamari Bahu Alka. She became famous with the movie Laawaaris (1981), in which she sang the famous song Mere Angne mein. She continued singing for Hindi movies through the 1980s, and got her big break in 1990 with the movie Tezaab (meaning "acid"). The song Ek do teen... (One two three...) is almost a cult classic in India.
