Akira (Band)

Akira is a London 3-piece alternative rock/post-rock band. They formed in a car-crash on November the 9th 2001 in the sleepy university town of Cambridge, England. Their aim was simple: make noise and have fun. After a year of perfecting their patented sonic assault they began playing small local shows and garnered lots of positive feedback. Then in the early summer of 2003 they released “Demonstration” a three-track CD that included the fan-favourite “81 Minutes.” After further perfection of their live incarnation they recorded a second demo which they termed “Selections of Modern Music E.P.” This was released in the autumn. Finally, in the summer of 2004 they relocated their operations to London. They have been compared to such notable names as: Avril Lavigne, Rooster, The Others and suprisingly Thelonius Monk. They've also played with bands as varied as: Six By Seven, Chikinki, Cat on Form and Amy Winehouse but were very very low on the bill for all of them.
