Air (Game)

AIR is a ren'ai game created by Key, who also created Kanon and, later, Clannad. Although created as a PC H game for adults, this game has minimal ecchi scenes. Later, a version without ecchi scenes, dubbed the "All Ages Version", was released on PC (without voice acting), Dreamcast (with almost full voice acting) and PlayStation 2 (with full voice acting). AIR is famous for its complex and touching story, while the music in game also receive high praise, especially the opening song 鳥の詩 (Tori no Uta; literally, Bird's Song) and insertion song aozora (Literal: Blue Sky).

Animation and movie

An anime based on the game is in the works and is currently airing on TBS's BS-i satellite broadcasting network. The first AIR anime episode, かぜ ~breeze~, was aired on January 6th, 2005. The anime series is made of thirteen main episodes, which consist of twelve main episodes and one recap episode. The anime also follows the game by splitting the series into three parts; Dream (ep1-7), Summer (ep7-9), and AIR (ep 10-12). Also, on November 17th, 2004, a teaser DVD named AIR ~prelude~ was produced containing interviews with the cast, clean opening and ending sequences, and promotional footage of the anime itself. It is a limited edition DVD, with only 20,000 copies produced. Also, a movie, animated by Toei, the same team who worked on the Kanon anime, premiered in Japanese theaters on February 5, 2005. It is regarded by many as more of a side story to AIR, and focuses on the main female character, Misuzu Kamio.

Fan translation

No official English translation of AIR exists (or is planned), but a fan translation by Chaotic Reign was available for a small portion of the game for English-speaking fans who owned the original game until around December 2004 when the project was closed down due to personal reasons. The file has become available on Zalas's AIR Wiki and only covers Misuzu's portion of the Dream scenario. A Traditional Chinese fan translation of the game and all in game dialogue (in text file format) is also available.
