Afferent SignalIn nervous systems, afferent signals or nerve fibers carry information toward the brain. A touch or painful stimulus, for example, creates a sensation in the brain only after information about the stimulus travels there via afferent nerves pathways. Efferent nerves and signals carry information away from the brain. In the peripheral nervous system, nerves are dedicated exclusively to either afferent or efferent signalling.
