Acting (Rank)

Acting rank, in the British Army allows an officer or NCO to assume the pay and allowance appropriate to the acting rank, but a commanding officer may order the holder to revert to previous rank held. Often this situation arises when a senior officer is killed, and lower-ranked officer can fill the position temporarily until a full-time replacement can be found. See also: External reference:
