43 Group

The 43 Group was a British Anti-Fascist group set up by Jewish ex-servicemen after World War II when they returned to London to discover Oswald Mosley, having been released from jail, had started up trying to re-build the British fascist movement. Their name is said to have come from the number of people in the room at their founding meeting. They violently attacked the fascists on the streets however this faded out in 1949, possibly due to opposition from moderate members of the Jewish community who considered that their activity damaged the community. Although Mosley's 'Union Movement' was very active throughout the 1950s it wasn't until 1962 that the 62 Group was formed in the 43 Group's image, but named after the relevant year this time.
