WR: World Record | In games, 30uv1441 is a complete tool-assisted speedrun through the first-person shooter Doom II in 15 minutes, 1.80 seconds. The Doom engine reports the speedrun's running time as 14 minutes, 41 seconds; this discrepancy is caused by the engine's use of the floor function to approximate times. It was released on January 20, 2004 by Ukrainian Doom player Andrey Budko. The demo was recorded on a modified version of PrBoom written by Budko himself; PrBoom is one of the many available source ports for Doom. The main feature of his custom version not present in the original PrBoom is the ability to activate permanent Strafe50, which allows the player to move faster than is humanly executable in the original Doom engine. All versions of PrBoom include slow-motion recording and save states, the latter of which Budko used sparingly. http://www.doomworld.com/vb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=20739 The speedrun currently holds 30 world record times for tool-assisted runs: one for 29 individual levels and one for the total time through all 32 levels. Budko's run eclipsed the March 2000 tool-assisted record of 16 minutes, 17 seconds by Marijo Sedlic in 30uv1617. This was achieved by taking advantage of newly-discovered routes and tricks, and the use of the Strafe50 modification. The fastest speedrun through Doom II without tool-assistance and using an unmodified Doom engine is 26 minutes, 9 seconds by Radek Pecka. However, it is vastly outdated and does not use many of the most efficient routes. The difference in quality is accounted for by many top Doom players' preference for recording tool-assisted runs over regular ones. Since releasing 30uv1441, Budko has also set world records for tool-assisted runs in Ultimate Doom: Areas for improvement 30uv1441 is not a maxed-out speedrun. At the Doomworld Forums in January 2004, Budko announced the possibility of recording an updated Doom II speedrun with a running time under 14 minutes. One of the most obvious areas for improvement is that Budko plays through a secret level, Grosse, that is not required to complete the game. Skipping this level entirely can shave off an additional 13 seconds: the 11 required to finish the level and 2 more for using the standard exit in Level 31 instead of the secret exit.
