1994 World Series

The 1994 World Series was cancelled on September 15 due an ongoing strike (over a proposed salary cap) by the Major League Baseball Players Association, which had begun in August. Many baseball fans lament that, while two World Wars, earthquakes, and other disasters could not cancel a World Series, financial issues could and did. Many analysts blame the strike and the cancellation of the Series for baseball's sharp drop in popularity in the ensuing years. The Montreal Expos, at 74-40, and the New York Yankees, at 70-43, held the best records in their respective leagues at season's end.
