Porto Alegre Porto Alegre is the capital of Rio Grande del Sul. It is the 6-th biggest town of Brazil and a good place to get your via before you go to Uruguay. The city is located on the banks of the Rio Guaiba river. Although it doesn't have any special attractions it is nice to stay here for some time. The Parque Farroupilha in the south east of town is a nice place to relax. On sunday mornings there is a big market and fair in the park, called the Brique da Redencao. If you have some more time, you can take a cruise on the river.
