Greenville

Some 100 miles northwest of Columbia, Greenville is located on the Piedmont Plateau. The Blue Ridge Mountains are only minutes from the heart of town; they are great for hiking, biking or just a sunday drive. For years Greenville has been a popular resort for Lowcountry planters trying to escape the mosquitoes and the heat and the climate is still a good reason to come here.

Greenville, sheltered by the hills, also exists as a perfect environment for business. There are a number of large corporations who make their home in the Greenville area (BMW, Michelin). More than just business, Greenville is place to live, enjoy, and prosper.

For lovers of art, the Greenville County Museum of Art has a fine collection of Southern works, as well as pieces by such 20th-century artists as Jasper Johns and Georgia O’Keeffe. The Bob Jones University Museum and Gallery has an impressive collection of European religious art.

Whether you have a cultivated palate or simple tastes, Greenville provides a range of gustatory stimulation as well. The barbecue sauce is tomato based and the best sauce in town is cut with a little bit of Cheerwine. Tea is always iced and always sweet, and fried is never a bad word. To avoid that impending angioplasty, you can savor a glass of wine from one of the town's many quality bistros or have a gourmet meal at one of the downtown hot spots.

Reedy River Historic Park and Greenway has some excellent riverbank footpaths to take a nice stroll. The Zoo has about 200 animals, a playground and picnic area. Another attraction is the Hollywild Animal Park, where they have Hollywood stars from the animal kingdom.
