Great North Woods

A century ago, only 50% of New Hampshire was forested, today 84% of it is. Nowhere do New Hampshire’s forests dominate the landscape as they do in the Great North Woods.

The region is unique in other ways, too. Close proximity to Canada’s Province of Quebec, as well as the Maine and Vermont borders, has resulted in a mix of cultures and outlooks.

Great North Woods is generally the first place in the state to receive the winter’s snows and the last place to greet summer.

Though, it is the natural attractions that make the region what it is. Colebrook and Lancaster are centers for shopping. Colebrook, like Pittsburg, is a center for sporting adventures, from fishing and hunting, to camping, boating, wildlife watching and snowmobiling.
