Scenic Railway Selection

Wales is rightly proud of its railways and it would be possible to include a number more than are contained on this page. Most of those selected here are preserved railways but it would be sinful to omit the wonderful line from Craven Arms in Shropshire, England right through Mid Wales to Llanethni near Swansea. This is a fabulous route through the Borders and is particularly striking around Llanwrtyd Wells and Llandovery.

Preserved lines include: the interesting old line from Porthmadog to Ffestiniog, known as the Ffestiniog Railway; the Tal-y-Llyn Railway from near Cadair Idris to the cost near Towyn; the steep and splendid Rheidol Valley Railway from Aberystwith to Devil's Bridge and, [not included in the Great Little Trains of Wales website] the Snowdon Mountain Railway from Llanberis to the summit of Snowdon.

Find out more about these and discover others on http://members.aol.com/Walesrails/little.htm and http://www.heart-of-wales.co.uk/
