Catalan is the language spoken in Barcelona and in Catalonia (as well as in Andorra, Mallorca and southern France). If you speak Spanish to somebody who is a Catalan independentist or nationalist, they might not even reply to you! - NEVER wear any bulls, Spanish flags or other Spanish patriotic symbols while in Barcelona and Catalunya. It CAN be dangerous. It is considered offensive to locals.
