Texel-island We have two suggestions for day trips in Texel.
The first brings you to the southern section of the unique tidal area of De Slufter NE from De Koog. The Slufter is a tidel inlet from the North Sea. You will experience the fascinating interplay between land, sea and wind. Attention: During breeding time (March 1st to September 1st) the western side of the marsh is closed. Only the southern section has free public access.
If you are more interested in bird life, you'd better choose for the Grote Vlak trip below.
The second is an excursion to the bird sanctuary of the Grote Vlak and to Texel's impressive southwestern beach plains: De Geul and De Hors.
(There is also an ANWB signposted route [De Geul & De Hors] starting from the ferry terminal, but large parts are closed from March 1st to September 1st).
