Alkmaar Alkmaar is relatively close to Amsterdam and the sights don't really require you to stay the night. A lot of people will therefore come here during a day trip from Amsterdam. There are frequent trains, about every 15 minutes all day, so this is really your best option. If you feel like it and the wheather is nice, you could also bike it. It's only about 35 kilometers, so if you're reasonable fit, you should be able to make it.
