Pisa

Eating out in Pisa is an easy thing. The city is dotted with "ristoranti", "trattorie", "pizzerie" and "tavole calde". You will find various spots only a stone's throw away from the famous Leaning Tower. But for a more authentic ambience than the one offered by the the mostly very touristy trattorie near the Campo dei Miracoli orientate southwards towards the Arno river.

Starting from Piazza dei Cavalieri go south (Via San Frediano) and turn left into Via Tavoleria. Here you will find some nice spots in and around Piazza Donati, Borgo Stretto and Via San Frediano. Following the Borgo Stretto downwards and turning right again you will reach the open air market at Piazza Vettovaglie. Another nice street with cosy restaurants is Via Volturno next to Piazza Solferino.

At the southern side of the river restaurants weren't that crowded anymore. We recommend Via San Francesco, Via del Carmine or the area around Piazza Vittorio Emmanuele (here you will find the best icecream of the city).
