Albenga

Some places and sights are really worth a visit as they are unique in the region. Surely the Centre with the Cathedral and the towers - about ten are still visible today - builted as symbol of power and prestige by the ancient families. The structure of the present center has not changed since medieval times.

The Baptistery, a roman building is probably the most important in Liguria. Next to the it the Cathedral which dates back to the 5th Century with Byzantine, Longobards, Frankish remains. The Diocesan museum with its splendid works of art of different ages is really worth seeing.

The 16th-century Peloso-Cepolla Palace has the Naval Roman Museum with a valuable collection of anchors and amphoras and many ship ancient equipment which have been found sunk in front of Albenga during the centuries.

If you are llooking for modern but also rare books you should go to the near S.Michele Bookshop (Via S. Michele 1, the Patron of Albenga). Gerry, the owner, is an expert and quite famous for beeing one of the organizers of Ceriale Peagna Ligurian book meetings and fair.
