Naumburg

Namburg an der Saale is an old cathedral city situated on the fast rail line between Leipzig and Weimar and reachable from both in less than an hour. Rather neglected in recent decades, the 30.000 inhabitant counting city has already made giant steps in scraping off the grime which had smothered its buildings for more than 30 years.

The historic part of Naumburg, set on heights overlooking the Saale valley, is dominated by the Dom (cathedral), which shows medieval German architecture and sculpture at its best (world famous is the west choir with the "Master of Naumburg" sculptures of Uta and Ekkehard, Hermann and Reglindis).
