Ettal Ettal is located in a narrow valley not far away from Oberammergau. The small village is know for its famous castle-lilke monastery the Ettal Basilica. It was founded by the Duke of Bavaria, Kaiser Louis the Fourth in 1330. Besides visting this highlight the visitor can buy some famous local beer or liquor in one of the numerous shops across the street.By that you support the monastery as the monks produce these spirits. A few restaurants are also to be found.
