Khor Virap Khor Virap is located some 30 kilometers south of Yerevan and can be seen as a daytrip from there, possible combined with Garni. The monastery of Khor Virap has a great setting: at the foot of mount Ararat on a bluff that seems to come out of nowhere on the Urartian plain. When you arrive you will see people coming at you trying to sell you white pigeons. They are meant to be sacrificed - in the Armenian orthodox church animal sacrifice is part of the game. The main sights here are the church of St.Gregory, dating back to the twelfth century and the well were the Saint was imprisoned for twelve years according to legend.
