Gyumri Gyumir is a large city in the north of Armenia, close to the border with Georgia. The city was almost completely destroyed by an earthquake in 1988, some people still live in temporary houses. The city is not really pretty, it's quite drab actually. There are two chruches you can visit both located on Peace square - the center of town. From Gyumri you can arrange onward transport to Akhalkalaki in Georgia and Erevan.
