Jacmel

The quiet and laid-back coastal town Jacmel is located at a four hours' drive from Port au Prince (depending on the bus your taking). After some possible hassle at your arrival from hotel owners, it is a nice port to catch your breath again before heading more inlands.

The town is famous for its handicrafts (papier-mache masks and carved-wood animals) and the Bassin Blue is an obligatory stop. You'll need a guide, but he'll take you up to this unbelievable clear mountain pool with waterfalls where you can have an excellent swim if you've had it with one of the beaches, such as Raymond Les Bains and Congo Black Sand Beach. Besides that, Jacmel offers a thriving market, coffee plantations and remnants of colonial architecure.
