Cap Haitien

Cap Haitien is located on historic ground : this is where Columbus celebrated the first Christmas in the New World. Nowadays Cap is a port and fishing village with some 100,000 inhabitants. It is a nice and relaxed place to go to, and used to have quite a crowd of local artists whose shops and studio's you can visit to admire their work. This gives the town a very pleasant feel.

Cap is a good place to come to relax. Some of Haiti’s finest beaches are nearby. Sea the section on beaches for more info. But the main reason to go to Cap Haitien is to see the Citadelle and Sans Souci, see the section on sights for more details.
