Chirripo

Chirripo

The Chirripo national park is a top highlight in the south of costa rica. Some 150 km from San Jose. It includes the highest mountain of the country and some spectacular hikes - including one all the way to the top. It is 20km long with 2400m-elevation gain. The route is well marked and accessible to the average outdoor enthusiast.

In Mrach there is the annual Chirripó marathon, where runners try to go to the top as fast as they can.

The towns of San Isidro de Perez Zeledon and San Gerardo de Rivas are good starting points for a visit. The former is bigger and has more facilities the latter closer to the entrance of the park, but it is very small.
