Lower Hutt Lower Hutt is just 15 minutes drive northeast from Wellington. It lies on the banks of the Hutt river and the hills and plain of the lower Hutt valley. There are swimming beaches in the seaside suburbs of Petone and Eastborne. The suburb of Petone is where the first settlers from Britan landed in the 1840's and there is a museum dedicated to their arrival on the foreshore.
