Geraldton Nights out in Geraldton generally start from Wednesday night onwards. There are a few live venues in the City catering to local musicians and visiting Perth bands and a couple of late night venues such as the Nitey and ZUU nightclubs. The once popular Breakers Tavern has seen a decline in the recent months with their change of ownership with the majority of the crowd now preferring to drink at the Freemasons hotel or the Geraldton hotel. Known locally as the Freo and the Gero respectively. Both venues offer local bands the chance to show off their talents on Wednesday and Thursday nights. On Wednesday nights the crowd finishes the night off at the ZUU nightclub. Both the Nitey and the ZUU nightclubs are open on Thursdays with the majority of the crowd frequenting the newly renovated ZUU with its upstairs Ozone lounge. Early Thursday nights you will find most locals and the numerous backpackers that visit the area for its wide variety of watersports, at the Geraldton hotel for it's "Originals Night". Friday night is usually the first night of the week where the population goes out en-mass and the crowd is usually seen at the venue with the best band. Although the City is home to around 20 000 people, on average Friday and Saturday nights, there are only usually about 500 people out and about. As most venues easily cater to this amount of party goers, you will generally find most of them spread around the more popular venues. The crowd usually departs the pubs and heads out to the night clubs. Most pubs, bars, taverns and the nightclubs are within walking distances of each other except for the Wintersun hotel which is right across the other side of Geraldton. About a A$10.00 taxi fare if you decide to go out there. Which is usually the case if a touring band is visiting, as the Wintersun provides the largest band room in town and many touring acts play there.
