Phou Quoc Island

Phou Quoc Island

I am a lover of beaches and can safely say that Phou Quoc (pronounced Foo Kwa) has some of the most pristine and inviting of any I have seen around the world

A short flight from Ho Chi Min City, you experience something a little off the trail and obscenely beautiful, in fact, all the best things about Vietnam without the chaos and dirt.

Having said that, part of Vietnam's charm is the chaos and dirt but a visit to Phou Quoc is a wonderful way to indulge in the hospitality of such warm people, eat some of the most divine food you are ever likely to enjoy with the sound of the jungle and crash of waves the only thing likely to interrupt.

There are a few resorts on the island which are well worth the visit. Not a resort person myself, it was a relief to find they are very relaxed and friendly places to stay. A haven of wonderful locals and like minded travellers who need to see something off the tourist map.

Hire a motorbike, tour the island, go snorkelling, lie on the white beaches or eat crab in plum sauce until the sauce drips from your elbows. A very magical place....
