Kerinci

Kerinci National Park is Sumatra's largest and is a critical refuge for nearly extinct species such as the Sumatran tiger and rhino. The towering volcano Gunung Kerinci is the second highest mountain in Southeast Asia and the neighboring caldera-lake Danua Gunung Tujuh (Seven Mountains Lake) is the region's most scenic. Tea is grown in the valley. A 7.1 quake struck the region in 1995, killing over 100 people, and since 2004 hikes to Gunung Kerinci's 3800 meter-high rim have been closed due to venting and rumblings. The regional capital Sungaipenuh hosts an annual festival with traditional music and dancing. http://www.kerinci.org/
