Ubud Being the cultural centre of Bali, Ubud offers plenty of opportunities to watch traditional Balinese dance performances. Especially the dance performances in the Royal Palace are a feast for the eyes. Besides that, there are great shadow puppets performances and four well-known Balinese museums are located in Ubud. The art collections are definitely worth a visit. When you want to have some more fresh air, rent a bike and explore the surroundings. There are a lot of little craft villages nearby, beautifully situated between the rice-fields. Day-trips can be made to the Monkey Forest and temples, such as the Goa Gajah and Penelokan. The latter is a must, not in the least because you can have some spectacular views of the Batur Volcano.
